But where are the books?

My first visit to the inside of the New York Public Library Humanities and Social Sciences branch was, well, a surprise.  Initial thought: beautiful!  Second thought: uh, where are the books?

Try as we might, in our 30-minute self-guided “tour” of the famous library of the lions, my friend and I could not find the books.  We did stumble into the reading room, granddaddy of all reading rooms, perhaps papa to Bates Hall at the main branch of the BPL?  Also, we saw the original Winnie the Pooh, sagging towards complete collapse in a glass case, not to be touched by another child probably ever.

Beautiful tiles and glass and ornate water fountains, NYPL Humanities branch has got them all.  Books, well, I’ll get back to you on that one.
